A lot of the information in this guide is based on my own experiences and is mostly focused on opportunities in the United States. Feel free to send me a message if you want to add to the list!

 

High School

The following programs are great opportunities for undergraduate students to get research experience. It is a great way to get exposed to research and see if it is something you are interested in pursuing in the future. If there is a particular institution you are interested in, check out if that institution has a summer research program. Sometimes, these programs are not advertised, so it is important to reach out to professors you are interested in working with.

 
  • NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) is a great opportunity for undergraduate students in the United States to get research experience. It is a 10-week program during the summer and provides a stipend and housing. There are a lot of participating institutions, check out the list to find one that interests you.
  • DOE Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) is a great opportunity for undergraduate students in the United States to get research experience. It is a 10-week program during the summer and provides a stipend and housing. There are a lot of eligibility requirements so make sure to read the website carefully.
  • DOE Community College Internship (CCI) is a great opportunity for community college students in the United States to get research experience. It is a 10-week program during the summer and provides a stipend and housing. There are a lot of eligibility requirements so make sure to read the website carefully.
  • Amgen Scholars is a great opportunity for undergraduate students in the United States to get research experience. It is a 10-week program during the summer and provides a stipend and housing. There are a lot of eligibility requirements so make sure to read the website carefully.

  • NYU GSTEM is a great opportunity for high school students in the United States to get research experience. It is a 6-week program during the summer and provides a stipend and housing.
  • STEM Research Academy is a great opportunity for high school students in the United States to get research experience. It is a 6-week program during the summer and provides a stipend and housing.
  • College Now courses are a great way to get research experience. They are offered at many CUNY schools and are free for NYC high school students. You can find more information Here
